Mosquito season is upon us, and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) wants you to be safe from mosquito-borne viruses.
According to the CDC, mosquito bites are more than just an itchy annoyance. “They can spread viruses that make you sick or, in rare cases, cause death. Although most kinds of mosquitoes are just nuisance mosquitoes, some kinds of mosquitoes in the United States and around the world spread viruses that can cause disease.”
The best way to prevent mosquito-borne illness is to prevent mosquito bites. Here is what CDC recommends for bite-prevention:
- Use insect repellent (see te CDC's Mosquito Bite Prevention fact sheet for info on which repellents to use)
- Cover up (wear long shirts and long pants)
- Keep mosquitoes outside (Use air conditioning, or window and door screens.)
