About the Florida COPD Coalition
The Florida COPD Coalition was formed in 2008 with the mission of improving COPD awareness, education, diagnosis, and treatment through collaboration amongst a comprehensive group of stakeholders in the state. The Florida COPD Coalition and its partner organizations conduct activities based on the goals and objectives established at the First Florida COPD Summit in November 2008.

- In 2008, COPD affected over 1.5 million individuals in Florida
- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida had 4,346 deaths attributable to COPD in 2005
- In 2007, more than 63,000 individuals were hospitalized for treatment of COPD and asthma- resulting in hospital charges totaling more than $1.3 billion in Florida alone
