The American Lung Association in New York and the COPD Foundation committed to addressing the burden of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), convened a group of strategic partners to create the New York COPD Coalition. The New York COPD Coalition includes representation from multiple sectors, such as hospitals, non-profit health organizations, healthcare workers, managed health care providers, federal, state and local government officials, as well as people with COPD.
The goal of the Coalition is to assess the prevalence of COPD in the State, which claims the lives of more than 6,000 New Yorkers each year. Additional goals include identifying current services and resources available to both patients and providers in managing the disease, determine the gaps sin care, and to implement appropriate strategies to address COPD research, education, prevention, and treatment in New York State.
